Superintendent
MaryEllen Elia's contract was terminated Tuesday in a 4-3 vote by the
school board.
The
total payout to Elia will be $1.1 million, which includes her
$280,000 annual salary for the next two and a half years.
Her
last day is March 5. She will then use her vacation time until June.
Board
members Doretha Edgecomb, Carol Kurdell and Melissa Snively voted
against terminating the contract.
“I
put this on the agenda so the matter could be resolved openly and
with frank discussion and debate, no other reason,” said Susan
Valdes, the board chairwoman. “We want full transparency, and
that’s what this does.”
Valdes
and board member April Griffin said the payout to Elia was inevitable
given the terms of her contract.
“What
we’re talking about is not the end of the world,” Griffin said.
“Whichever way the vote goes, the sun will come up tomorrow,
teachers will teach and students will learn.”
Board
member Cindy Stuart called the board’s relationship with the
superintendent “broken” and said it showed no signs of
improving.
“The
contract we are talking about is unconscionable and is unfair to the
public,” she said.

New
York education officials are defending a hotly debated plan to allow
illegal immigrants to be certified as public school teachers.
Saying
the district doesn’t want to “close the door on their dreams,”
state Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia explained those eligible
for the teaching certification came to America as children.
“They
are American in every way but immigration status,” said Elia.
“They’ve done everything right. They’ve worked hard in school,
some have even served in the military, but when it’s time to apply
for a license, they’re told, ‘Stop. That’s far enough.’”
The
regents oversee 3.2 million students in 700 school districts as well
as 7,000 libraries, 900 museums and 52 professions requiring more
than 850,000 licensees. The controversial decision also enables
the board to award licenses to illegal aliens in at total of 54
professions, including engineers, pharmacists and dentistry.

Well,
I’ve had nothing but unfortunate ‘performance’, actually
perfectly awful experiences with Mexican, Pakistani, and Hindu
‘doctors.’ They have been totally untrained, unprofessional, and
in the Hindu, extremely egotistical. In the Hindu, the inflated ego
is pretty easy to understand as a self-defense mechanism ‘protecting’
their own pitiful lack of skill by the self-delusion of worth.
Utterly pitiful creatures so self-deluded that they might even
believe they actually are worth more than dog shit.
What
do all of the above have in common? They are all 3rd
worlders. Additionally, the average I.Q.’s range from a high of 87
for the Mexican to 78 for the Pakistani. The education for all of my
‘doctors’ was from their 3rd
world countries and it is pretty easy to understand the low standards
and corruption that goes on there. Again,
